Les Miserables Cast Announced

On Friday 4 September we had a fantastic auditions night for Les Miserables, and are pleased to announce an awesome cast. The standard was unbelievably high and congratulations to everyone who was successful. The full cast is now up on the Current Productions main page for Les Miserables, but this is to be headed by Richard Camp as Valjean, Craig Nash as Javert, Ben Cronin as Marius, Bethan Evans as Fantine, Lois Daniels as Eponine, Rowan Beaumont as Cosette, James Hall and Becca Dobson as the Thenardiers, George Evans as Gavroche, Becky Bruce as Young Cosette, Adam Painting as Enjolras & Christian Darnell as Grantaire.

CARNIVAL CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Well done to everyone involved with our "Carnival" concert. What a fantastic show everyone. Great feedback and hopefully a good review aswell. Enjoy your summer break and see you back again at the end of August (21st). We will send the Les Miserables audition material soon.

New Members Auditions

Our next new members auditions will be held on 5 July 2009. Due to the nature of our next show, we will particularly looking for Boys aged 13 +, but will consider Girls with exceptional talent. EXCITING NEWS!!!!!

ACT One is very proud to announce that our next full production in February 2010 will be the fantastic "Les Miserables School Editon", for which we have now secured the performing rights. The dates will be 10 - 13 February 2010 at Hind Leys College, Shepshed. Tickets will be on sale from October 1. see the "current shows" page for more details shortly.

Concert Line Up Announced/Rehearsal Schedule available.

Following 3 1/2 hours of discussions, Hazel, Wendy & I have emerged and are now happy to reveal the line up for the concert in July, which will be a very exciting mix of numbers. For the first time we will be doing 3 performances of the concert following last year's sell out! Well done to everyone who was successful in getting a solo, duet or group number and keep a good eye on the rehearsal schedule posted on the notice board at the church for when your items will be rehearsed, so you can have a look beforehand.

A Big Welcome To Our New Members...

New members auditions took place yesterday and I'd like to welcome our successful new members - Abbie Thorpe, Beckie Davey, Joe Small, Kate Shaw, Katie Sprason, Lottie Heimes, Matthew Dobson, Rebecca O'Flynn, Ryan Halliday, Sam Bruce & Tom Kuzniar. I hope you'll all make them feel welcome on Friday at at rehearsals. Well done again, and of course commiserations to those who tried but didn't quite make it through the auditions this time.

Next Meeting/Rehearsal

Next meeting for members and also new members accepted will be 20th March 2009 at 7 pm. This will be a social night to get to know each other more and to present the annual producer's awards. Rehearsals for the concert will start the week after.

Some sad goodbyes

As happens every year, we need to say goodbye to a few individuals - they will be missed form ACT One and we wish them well. Not least of these is Bethan Evans who has completed 16 shows with us in 8 years, ranging from a clown in Barnum and rising through the ranks to the part of Evangeline Harcourt in Anything Goes and of course to her wonderful portrayal of the downtrodden Kathy in Disco Inferno. We're also saying farewell to Ellie Owen, our Calamity from last year, Emma Partridge, who was Adelaide Adams in Calamity and Charlie Smith who played Jan in Grease. These three have been with us 5 years, and we also say "auf weidersehen" to Isaac, our Heathcliffe; we also wish him well in his further studies in drama.

Finally Big Al has handed in his toolkit after 3 years at the top as Stage Manager, and 10 years helping behind the scenes - we know you wont be faar away and wish you well in your ambitions for the future in the karate world!

A Goodbye

... from Adam Daniels, who has decided to leave ACT One after 6 years. Adam has taken several major roles with us in his time with us, including Danny in Grease, and Bill Hickock, in Calamity Jane. He's currently studying at Melton College of Performing Arts and we wish him well for the future.

Cast your eyes over this.....

Disco Inferno auditions are now over after a gruelling 4 and a half hours. My god I feel like Simon Cowell (only with slightly less hair and a lower trouser waistband!) Wendy, Hazel and I are really impressed with the standard and hope that everyone is pleased with the results. Clearly there will always be losers and please don't take this personally and don't forget that it is all a TEAM effort and everyone is important in the sjow regardless of the role they are playing. Anyway, congratulations to Richard, Georgie, Ace, Becky Bakewell, Isaac, Bethan, Daniel, Craig, James & Sofie in getting the main roles and good luck to everyone - this will be a fantastic and memorable show. Disco Inferno Information

Disco Inferno rehearsals start on 5 September with auditions on 14th September at Christchurch from 1 - 5 pm. First of all we have our chips and social night on 29 August (yes that's THIS Friday!)

For the auditions, to clear up some confusion:

BOYS - If you want to go for a main part then you'll need to sing Celebration, Heathcliffe's part, up to bar 42 on the fifth page of the music (p7) AND Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (Jack's part) up to bar 29 on he fourth page of the music (p222) AND ALSO the duet You To Me Are Everything (Jack's part) which will be with one of the girls interested in a main part - this is up to bar 40 on the fifth page of the music (p81). You'll also be required to perform the script audition piece for the particular part or parts you are interested in. You will also be considered for other roles and backing singers. If you ONLY want to be considered for a backing singer (of which there will be several) then please choose ONLY ONE of the pieces above to audition with.

GIRLS - If you want to go for a main part then you'll need to sing Hot Stuff (Lady Marmalade's Part) up to bar 72 on the seventh page of the music (p60) AND ALSO the duet You To Me Are Everything (Jane's part) which will be with one of the boys interested in a main part - this is up to bar 40 on the fifth page of the music (p81). You'll also be required to perform the script audition piece for the particular part or parts you are interested in. You will also be considered for other roles and backing singers. If you ONLY want to be considered for a backing singer (of which there will be several) then please choose ONLY ONE of the pieces above to audition with.

I hope this is clear now.

The audition on th 14th will start promptly at 1pm with the singing items and will be OPEN AUDITIONS. No other audition days will be offered. The decision of the audition committee, which is Adrian, Wendy & Hazel will be final and we will announce as far as possible the results at around 5pm on the day.

Workshops Roundup

Thank you to all of you for making the workshops such a success this summer. From your feedback forms it seems that, on the whole, they were very well received and that you'd like some more of the same next year, with perhaps some other additions aswell. So watch this space! West End well done!

Well, despite the worries of the first full rehearsal in the theatre last Wednesday, I am very happy to say a big well done to everyone involved in West End Experience as ACT One clocked up another tremendous show at Hind Leys last Friday & Saturday. Complete with the introduction of a fire alarm on Saturday night the show was extremely well received and played to a packed house both nights. The ACT One talent never seems to stop growing and it was great to see not only new soloists and performers but those who have come through the ranks and grown and developed with the experience they have received. Enjoy your well earned Summer break, and we will see everyone back on 29th August for our social night and then as rehearsalls begin for Disco Inferno the week after. Those of you attending the workshops, we look forward to seeing you then.

Disco Inferno Initial Rehearsals & Auditions

First rehearsal for Disco Inferno is Friday 5 September 7 - 9.15 p.m. and Auditions will take place on Sunday 14 September from 1 - 5. Once again auditions will be open in that all ACT One members can watch, and indeed are encouraged to "have a go" for the parts on offer. Interest in parts will be taken over the first 2 rehearsals, but if you want to be considered for a main role you will need to learn and sing on your own all the audition pieces and to be heard reading the piece of script for the part in which you are interested. It will help you to have learnt these from memory as you will be able to characterise more easily. For the lads the songs are: Celebration (download), Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (download) and the duet, You To Me Are Everything (download). Girls, you will need to sing Hot Stuff (download) and the duet, You To Me Are Everything (download).

Summer Workshops

ACT One is holding a series of 3 workshops this summer, priced at £10 each for members, and with a maximum of 20 places each day. The dance workshop is on Sunday 27 July (2 - 7 p.m.), Music on Tuesday 5 August (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.) and Drama on Monday 11 August (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.). All sessions are at Vine House in Shepshed and involve 2 x 2 hour sessions with an hour's break in the middle for food. They are on a first come first served basis, but if all places are not filled can be opened up to non-members at £15 each.

2010 Show announced

We are very pleased to be able to announce that ACT One has secured the performing rights to perform Barry Manilow's "Copacabana", which is to take place in February 2010 (Yes that really is the date!). The show contains a whole host of fantastic musical numbers by Mr. Manilow himself, including Sweet Heaven, Dancing Fool, Man Wanted & of course Copacabana. There's plenty of chorus work and some interesting characters plus plenty of sequens and feathers for Sue!!. More details will appear shortly so keep your eyes of the Current Shows section.

Well Done & Thank You

A really massive thank you to everyone that took part in the joint concert at Emmanuel Church in Loughborough last Saturday, where ACT One excelled themselves once again in a packed church. You were all great ambassadors for the group and the comments I have received from members of the audience have been fantastic. Well done also to Grand Central Chorus, our hosts, and to the other performers from Loughborough Endowed Schools Big Band & the Barbeshop Quartet, "Retro" who were all excellent.
